Circuit Court clerk to retire

Bessemer Circuit Court Clerk Earl N. Carter Jr. has announced his retirement, effective Dec. 31.

Carter, 68, has been clerk of one of the busiest circuit courts in Alabama for 21 years and has been in the office for 33 years.

Deputy Clerk Susan F. Dawson is also retiring on Dec. 31.

The judges will pick the successor. Deadline to be considered for the job is Nov. 30.
